LOOK: 2023 Cinemalaya's screening schedule at new venue PICC, select malls

It's all systems go for this year's Cinemalaya, the country's renowned independent film festival, this Aug. 4 to 13.

Cinemalaya 2023 is having its debut at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), after nearly two decades of taking place at the Cultural Center of the Philippines since it is under renovation.

There will also be select screenings in four Ayala Malls, namely Ayala Mall Manila Bay, Trinoma, Glorietta, and UP Town Center.

The festival's 19th edition has the theme “ilumiNasyon,” as it aims to “inform, reshape, and challenge” filmmakers and viewers alike.

The 10 competing full-length features are as follows:

  • Maria by Sheryl Rose Andes 
  • Gitling by Jopy Arnaldo 
  • Tether by Gian Arre 
  • Ang Duyan ng Magiting by Dustin Celestino 
  • Bulawan Nga Usa (Golden Deer) by Kenneth De La Cruz 
  • Rookie by Samantha Lee
  • Huling Palabas by Ryan Machado 
  • When This is All Over by Kevin Mikhail Mayuga 
  • Iti Mapupukaw (The Missing) by Carl Joseph Papa
  • As If It’s True by John Rogers

The 10 competing short film entries, meanwhile, include the following:

  • Tong Adlaw Nga Nag-Snow sa Pinas by Joshua Caesar Medroso
  • HM HM MHM by Sam Villa-real and Kim Timan
  • Golden Bells by Kurt Soberano
  • Hinakdal by Arvn Belarmino
  • Kokuryo: The Untold Story of Bb. Undas 2019 by Diokko Manuel Dionisio
  • Ang Kining Binalaybay Kag Ambahanon Ko Para Sa Imo by Kent John Desamparado
  • Maudi Nga Arapaap (Last Dream) by Daniel James Magayon
  • Makoko sa Baybay by Mike Cabales
  • Sibuyas ni Perfecto (Perfecto’s Onion) by Janura Yap
  • Sota by Mae Tanagon

Screening schedules for PICC and the Ayala malls can be found below.

The festival will open with Quark Henares's Marupok AF on Aug. 4, while it will close with Dwein Baltazar's Third World Romance on Aug. 12.

The regular price per screening is P300, while students can avail of a discounted price (P200) per screening.

The awards ceremony will be held on Aug. 13.
