WATCH: How Luis Manzano proposed to Jessy Mendiola before their second wedding
Luis Manzano was finally able to get down on one knee and propose marriage to Jessy Mendiola years after their controversial engagement involving her ring.
The actress gave a look at the proposal in a vlog uploaded on YouTube on Friday, Feb. 23. At the start of the video, Luis can be seen popping the question to her during their photoshoot for their second wedding.
"I never really got to propose to you, 'di ba? That's why... Howhow, will you marry me?" Luis asked Jessy as he proposed to her on one knee.
Jessy turned emotional as she answered him with "Of course!"
"I love you very much," the TV host told his partner. "Ilang years na tayo but tomorrow is a new day for us," he added, referring to their church ceremony that took place last week in Coron, Palawan.
"Thank you for considering me to spend the rest of my life with you," he continued. "I would do it over and over again with you."
Controversial engagement
Jessy revealed in a 2020 vlog that she and Luis broke up before their engagement and that she knew about the ring even before he had the chance to propose to her for the first time.
According to her, Luis had the diamond engagement ring made by Radiant Jewelry in 2019. The jewelry brand even showed it to her and let her wear it at the time they had a falling-out.
"Can you imagine 'yung feeling ng babae na hindi ayos ng boyfriend tapos pinasuot niya sa akin yung ring? Na naisip mo what could have been? Na kung okay kami ni Luis, magpo-propose kaya siya? Kailangan ba umabot sa ganitong point na ibang tao yung magsasabi sa akin about the ring?" she said.
Luis finally decided to get the ring when they got back together, though Jessy said the excitement that comes with marriage proposals was no longer there.
"Nawala sa amin 'yung feeling na 'yun. 'Yung excitement na luluhod 'yung lalaki sa harap mo, kinakabahan, 'di alam kung ano sasabihin sa 'yo. Na tatanungin ka niya ng, 'Will you marry me?' Nawala sa amin yun,” she said.
In order to “erase” the “negative vibes” attached to the engagement ring, Jessy decided to have it reset and redesigned by Manila Diamond Studio, which she endorses. She had it reset two years later to make it "more child-friendly" for their first kid Rosie, whom they welcomed in December 2022.
They first got married at The Farm in San Benito in Batangas in February 2021 after five years of dating.
