Dolly de Leon reveals Eugene Domingo helped pay for son's tuition for 3 years
There's a saying that friendships come and go, but that definitely does not apply to Dolly de Leon and Eugene "Uge" Domingo. The two foster a friendship so strong that Eugene offered to help pay the tuition fees of Dolly's son when she had financial problems.
Dolly revealed this during her guest appearance in the latest episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda. During the interview, Boy talked about the people who have played an important role in Dolly's life, both in good and bad times, before asking why she was close to Eugene.
The veteran actress shared that the two of them already knew each other back when they were teenagers as they were both under the theater arts program at the University of the Philippines.
However, their friendship was truly tested when Dolly was struggling financially.
"[There was a time] when I was going through really hard times. May time talaga na walang wala na talaga akong pambayad ng kuryente, napatigil 'yung anak ko sa pag-aaral dahil wala akong pambayad ng tuition," she recounted.
Despite paddling through rough waters, a lot of her friends offered a helping hand to her, and one of them is Eugene.
"She paid for my son's tuition for three years," Dolly revealed. "Three years niyang binayaran 'yung tuition ng anak ko. She never left, even if she's reached that super stardom level already."
She highlighted, "She was always a friend, she was always Uge as we know her. Totoong kaibigan ang tingin ko talaga sa kanya."
Even though the Triangle of Sadness star was a struggling actress back in the day, the same can't be said now after she made history by becoming the first Filipino actor to be nominated at two prestigious international award shows: the British Academy Film Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.
And even during these times, Eugene was there to support her.
"Kumbaga, dinaanan [na ni Uge] 'to eh so alam niya kung anong gagawin," Dolly said. "Binigyan niya akong tips kung anong sapatos susuotin. 'Magbaon ka lagi ng flats,' ganyan."
Dolly is not yet done making her mark in Hollywood, as she is now set to appear in the upcoming action comedy film Grand Death Lotto together with John Cena, Simu Liu, and Awkwafina. Aside from this, she will also star in a new Star Cinema film titled A Very Good Girl with Kathryn Bernardo.
