LIST: The biggest movies, TV series releasing in 2025

2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for cinema and television.

The past year had some exciting releases—Wicked, Squid Game season 3, and Deadpool & Wolverine, to name a few. This year, some of the most-anticipated sequels are coming to theaters while the most talked-about shows are returning with new seasons.

Ready to get your geek on this 2025? Here are some of the biggest TV shows and movies to add to your watch list this year.

The White Lotus Season 3

It's trouble in paradise in Thailand. The third season of The White Lotus takes viewers to the Thailand branch of the resort chain. As each day passes, the guests' supposed relaxing stay unleashes their darkest and most privileged impulses.

In a previous interview, show creator Mike White said that the third season will be a "satirical and funny look" at death and Eastern religion and spirituality.

It stars Walton Goggins, Aime Lou Wood, Carrie Coon, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Natasha Rothwell, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, and BLACKPINK member Lisa.

The new season comes out on Feb. 16, 2025.

The Last of Us Season 2

The story of Ellie (Bella Ramsay) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) continues in the second season of The Last of UsThe series will pick up in the same post-apocalyptic United States where mutated fungi are causing humans to become cannibalistic monsters.

After Joel saves Ellie by killing the Fireflies in a hospital, their relationship is a bit strained as the teenager wonders if she couldn't help doctors find a cure. The upcoming season will feature a time jump, showing the changing nature of the duo's relationship.

In January 2024, Kaitlyn Dever was cast as controversial character Abby. Isabela Merced also joins as Ellie's love interest Dina and Young Mazino stars as Dina's ex Jesse. If you're familiar with the game, you probably know something shocking will come in the next season, which is set for an early 2025 release.

Snow White

It seems like Disney is releasing live-action adaptations every year and 2025 will have a few exciting films down the line. Apart from Lilo and Stitchthe House of Mouse is also releasing a live-action Snow White starring Rachel Zegler as the young princess, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan.

The upcoming film is coming to theaters on March 21, 2025.

How To Train Your Dragon

Fans will soon re-meet Hiccup and Toothless. In November 2024, Universal Pictures gave a first look at its live-action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon, starring Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, and Nick Frost.

The film again follows misfit teen Hiccup in the Viking village of Berk where people fight with dragons for a living. His dream to become a true Viking changed when he met Toothless, an injured dragon. The two became best friends and managed to change the longstanding feud between the Vikings and the dragons.

How To Train Your Dragon is set for a June 13, 2025 release.

28 Years Later

Attention, horror junkies! The third installment of zombie flick 28 Days Later, titled 28 Years Lateris hitting cinemas on June 20, 2025.

The upcoming film, with Danny Boyle as director, is set in rural England nearly three decades after the "Rage" virus broke out. The apocalypse-causing virus returns and the film centers on a group of survivors living on a small island connected to the mainland. When one member of the group leaves the island on a mission to the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors.

In September, tech website WIRED reported that a bunch of "adapted" iPhone 15 Pro Max devices were used to shoot the film.

Marvel has a lot of things in store for 2025: Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies, and Wonder Man. But one of the most highly-anticipated releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year is The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The film reintroduces the superhero team and features an all-star ensemble including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear). Set in a retro-futuristic earth, the Fantastic Four must protect their home from being devoured by Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom is also expected to make his debut in the post-credit scene of the movie.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit theaters on July 5, 2025.

Superman

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It's a new Superman flying into screens. James Gunn's take on the Man of Steel stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

ICYDK, the upcoming film will be the first in the DC Universe. It'll follow Clark Kent's journey reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his life in Smallville, Kansas.

Superman is set to release on July 11, 2025.

Squid Game Season 3

Still on the edge of your seat after that cliffhanger at the end of Squid Game season 2? The wait isn't going to be as long as Netflix announced that the third season of the thriller will be out in 2025. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk even said it could be out by summer or fall of the year.

As seen in the post-credit scene of season 2, the upcoming season will feature the all-too-familiar animatronic doll Young-hee, from Red Light, Green Light, and her new male counterpart, Chul-su. Looks like the games will continue and they'll be more dangerous than ever.

Stranger Things Season 5

Stranger Things returns for its fifth and final season. Our heroes Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Max (Sadie Sink) gear up to face big bad Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) once more.

The season will have eight episodes and follow a time jump—it'll be set over a year after the events of season 4 when Vecna opened a gate to the Upside Down. 

Wicked: For Good

Part 2 of hit film Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is coming soon. The sequel to the movie musical is set for a Nov. 21, 2025 release and is titled Wicked: For Good

Helmed by Jon M. Chu, the movie will continue the story of Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande) after they figure out that the Wizard doesn't really have any powers. It will also reveal how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and how Glinda transforms into the Good Witch—events that lead to The Wizard of Oz.

Three of Netflix's biggest series are getting new seasons this 2025. In addition to Squid Game and Stranger Things, beloved horror Wednesday is returning with a new season. 

As star Jenna Ortega previously said, the new season will be "bigger" and more "action-packed." This comes after she previously noted how she wanted more horror than romance from the series. The upcoming season will continue to uncover the supernatural mysteries of Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy.

Some big names have been announced and rumored to be part of the second season, including Steve Buscemi and Lady Gaga.
